How to Install the Ventus Aetos Controller on a Surron Ultra Bee | Complete Installation Guide

AETOS INSTALLATION GUIDE

The Ventus Aetos Controller is a complete controller upgrade for the Surron Ultra Bee that includes a new controller, display, switch panel, regenerative brake lever, and bike-specific wiring harness and mounting hardware.

This guide follows the installation process shown in our installation video and walks through each step from removing the factory controller to preparing the bike for configuration in the VTB App.

What's Included

The Ventus Aetos Controller kit includes:

  • Ventus Aetos Controller
  • Left-hand switch panel
  • Variable thumb regen brake
  • Large center display

For the Ultra Bee, you'll also need the bike-specific installation kit, which includes:

  • Ultra Bee wiring harness
  • Controller mounting brackets
  • Required adapters
  • Mounting hardware

Step 1 – Remove the Battery

Begin by removing the seat.

Open the battery compartment and remove the battery from the motorcycle before working on any electrical components. This prevents power from remaining in the system while the installation is performed.

Step 2 – Remove the Factory Controls

Remove the following OEM components:

  • Left grip
  • Left switch panel
  • Right switch panel
  • Factory display

Cut the factory zip ties securing the wiring to the handlebars so the wiring can be routed later during installation.

The throttle assembly only needs to be loosened enough to slide it out of the way.

Step 3 – Remove the Front Number Plate

Remove the upper and side mounting bolts holding the front number plate in place.

Once removed, you'll have access to the factory wiring connections behind the display.

Disconnect:

  • Left switch panel connector
  • Right switch panel connector
  • Brake sensor connectors
  • Factory display connector

Remove the factory display from the motorcycle.

Step 4 – Install the New Switch Panel and Regen Brake

Install the new Ventus switch panel onto the left side of the handlebars.

Next, install the thumb-operated regenerative braking lever directly beside it.

Reinstall the left grip and use it to position both controls.

Adjust the regen brake so it feels natural to operate with your thumb, then position the switch panel against it before tightening both components.

Route the wiring beneath the handlebars and secure it to the brake line with a zip tie.

Step 5 – Install the New Display

Install the Ventus display in the factory display location using the supplied mounting hardware.

Route the display wiring through the front of the motorcycle before tightening the mounting nuts.

Step 6 – Install the Upper Wiring Harness

Route the new Ultra Bee wiring harness through the steering head toward the display area.

Connect:

  • Display connector
  • Factory switch panel connector
  • New switch panel
  • Regen brake connector

Tighten all waterproof connectors completely.

Step 7 – Protect the Unused OEM Connectors

The factory display and switch connectors are no longer used after installing the Ventus controller.

To help keep moisture out of these unused connectors, place a plastic bag over them, slide it down the wiring as far as possible, and secure it with a zip tie before tucking the connectors safely inside the bike.

Step 8 – Remove the Factory Controller

Remove the skid plate to gain access to the controller.

Disconnect the controller wiring while supporting the controller with your other hand.

Do not allow the controller to hang from the wiring, as this can damage the harness.

After disconnecting the remaining harness connectors, remove the factory controller from the motorcycle.

Reinstall the bolts into the factory controller so they stay with it for future use.

Step 9 – Connect the Ventus Aetos Controller

Begin by connecting the three motor phase wires.

The order of the phase wires is not critical.

During controller setup in the VTB App, the controller will ask whether the wheel is spinning in the correct direction. If it isn't, the app will reverse the motor direction automatically.

Next connect:

  • Motor connector
  • Controller B-
  • Positive cable
  • Negative cable

Connect the motor adapter supplied with the Ultra Bee installation kit before tightening all connections.

Step 10 – Connect the Main Harness

Reconnect the metal battery tray.

Plug the new wiring harness into the motorcycle's factory harness.

Route the controller negative lead down to the controller and connect it before installing the controller permanently.

At this stage, leave the wiring loose until the controller has been mounted.

Step 11 – Mount the Controller

Install the supplied Ultra Bee mounting brackets using the hardware included with the Ultra Bee mounting kit.

Reuse the factory controller mounting bolts to secure the brackets to the motorcycle.

Leave the side brackets slightly loose until the controller has been centered.

Once aligned, tighten all mounting hardware.

The completed installation provides a clean OEM-style mounting solution.

Step 12 – Organize the Wiring

Once the controller is mounted, tuck the excess wiring into the available space beneath the battery tray.

Secure the remaining wiring to the brake line with zip ties, keeping the installation clean and organized.

Step 13 – Reinstall the Skid Plate

Reinstall the skid plate.

During the installation shown in the video, the two front skid plate mounting points did not line up with the mounting posts on the controller.

The skid plate remained securely mounted using the side and lower mounting bolts.

Step 14 – Reinstall the Battery

Reinstall the battery and reconnect both battery connectors.

Close the battery compartment and power the motorcycle on.

A throttle fault or other setup codes may appear after installation. This is normal because the controller has not yet been configured in the VTB App.

Configure the Controller in the VTB App

Download the VTB App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Before connecting:

  • Place the motorcycle on a stand.
  • Ensure the VTB App is updated to the latest version.

Turn the bike on and connect to the controller.

If a firmware update is available, install it before continuing.

During the update:

  • Do not switch to another app.
  • Do not answer phone calls.
  • Do not interrupt the update process.

Allow the firmware update to reach 100%, then restart the controller.

Once reconnected, navigate to:

Parameter Settings → Advanced Settings → Controller Setup Guidance

From there, follow the guided setup process inside the app to complete the controller configuration.

Installation Complete

Once the controller has been installed and configured, the Ventus Aetos Controller is ready for use on your Surron Ultra Bee.

Your bike is now equipped with the new controller, display, switch panel, and thumb-operated regenerative brake exactly as demonstrated in the installation video.
