Rerode R1/R1+ Advanced Display Settings Overview

1. Overview

This article explains how to access and adjust the display settings on the Rerode R1 and R1+. By the end of this guide, you'll know how to enter the advanced settings menu, adjust screen brightness, change speed units, configure wheel and gear ratio settings, adjust regenerative braking (EABS), and clear ride data such as trip distance, average speed, and maximum speed.

2. Prerequisites

Required Bike Access:

  • A powered-on Rerode R1 or R1+

  • Access to the handlebar controls (+, -, and Mode buttons)

Time Required:

  • Approximately 2–5 minutes

Knowledge Required:

  • Basic familiarity with navigating the bike's display menu

Before You Begin:

  • Ensure the bike is powered on.

  • The display must be functioning properly.

  • It is recommended to perform any display adjustments while the bike is stationary.

Available Settings Covered in This Guide:

  • Backlight Brightness

  • Speed Units (MPH/KM/H)

  • Gear Ratio

  • Front Wheel Size

  • EABS (Regenerative Braking)

  • Trip Data Reset

  • Average Speed Reset

  • Maximum Speed Reset

⚠️ Important: If your bike is using the factory sprocket and wheel configuration, leave the Gear Ratio and Front Wheel Size settings at their default values to ensure accurate speed and distance readings.

3. Step-by-Step Instructions

3.1 Access the Advanced Display Settings

  1. Power on your Rerode R1 or R1+.

  2. Locate the "+" and "-" buttons on the handlebar controls.

  3. Press and hold the "+" and "-" buttons simultaneously.

  4. Continue holding until the Advanced Display Settings menu appears.

Expected Result: The Advanced Display Settings menu will open, allowing you to access and modify display-related settings.

Tips

  • Make sure the bike is powered on before attempting to enter the settings menu.

  • If the menu does not appear, release the buttons and try again while holding both buttons at the same time.

3.2 Adjust Display Settings

Once inside the Advanced Display Settings menu, navigate through the available options using the display controls.

Backlight

The Backlight setting controls display brightness.

Available Levels:

  • Level 1 = Lowest brightness

  • Level 2

  • Level 3

  • Level 4

  • Level 5 = Highest brightness (Factory Default)

Unit

Select your preferred speed unit:

  • MPH (Miles Per Hour)

  • KM/H (Kilometers Per Hour)

Gear Ratio

If you have changed sprocket sizes from the factory setup, adjust the Gear Ratio setting accordingly.

If your bike is still using the factory sprockets, leave this setting at its default value.

Front Wheel Size

If you have changed the front wheel size from stock, update the Front Wheel Size setting.

If your bike is using the factory wheel size, leave this setting unchanged.

EABS Rating (Regenerative Braking)

Available Settings:

  • 0 = Regen Off

  • 1 = 25% Regen

  • 2 = 50% Regen

  • 3 = 75% Regen

  • 4 = 100% Regen

Higher settings provide stronger regenerative braking when releasing the throttle.

Expected Result: Your selected settings will be saved and applied to the display and bike operation.

Tips

  • Leave Gear Ratio and Front Wheel Size at factory settings unless modifications have been made.

  • Experiment with different EABS levels to find the regenerative braking strength that best matches your riding style.

  • Higher backlight settings may improve screen visibility in direct sunlight.

3.3 Exit the Settings Menu

  1. Navigate to the Exit option within the Advanced Display Settings menu.

  2. Confirm your selection.

Expected Result: The display will return to the normal home screen.

4. Pro Tips & Common Issues

Pro Tips

Record Your Factory Settings
Before making changes to the EABS, Gear Ratio, or Wheel Size settings, make note of the original values. This makes it easy to return to the factory configuration if needed.

🔋 Adjust EABS to Match Your Riding Style
Lower EABS settings provide a free-rolling feel with minimal regenerative braking, while higher settings create stronger deceleration when releasing the throttle. Test different levels to find your preferred balance.

⚙️ Only Modify Gear Ratio and Wheel Size When Necessary
These settings directly affect speed and distance calculations. If your bike still has the factory sprockets and wheel sizes installed, leave these settings unchanged.

☀️ Increase Backlight for Better Visibility
If you frequently ride in bright sunlight, setting the Backlight to Level 5 will provide maximum screen visibility.

📊 Reset Ride Data Before Tracking a Ride
Clearing your Trip Distance, Average Speed, and Maximum Speed before a ride provides the most accurate ride statistics.

Common Issues & Fixes

Issue

Likely Cause

Solution

Unable to access Advanced Display Settings

Buttons were not pressed simultaneously

Press and hold both the "+" and "-" buttons at the same time until the menu appears

Speed reading appears inaccurate

Incorrect Gear Ratio or Front Wheel Size setting

Verify these settings match your current sprocket and wheel configuration

Trip Distance is not resetting

Reset was not confirmed

Press the Mode button and select OK to confirm the reset

Display is difficult to read in sunlight

Backlight setting is too low

Increase the Backlight setting to a higher level

Regenerative braking feels too strong or too weak

EABS setting is not adjusted to rider preference

Increase or decrease the EABS level until the desired braking feel is achieved

Ride data was accidentally cleared

Trip statistics were reset

Ride data cannot be recovered after being cleared; record important ride information before resetting

Additional Notes

⚠️ Changing the Gear Ratio or Front Wheel Size settings without corresponding hardware changes may result in inaccurate speed, distance, and ride data readings.

⚠️ EABS settings only affect regenerative braking behavior and do not increase the bike's power output or top speed.
