The Rerode R1 and R1+ feature an adjustable Electronic Assisted Braking System (EABS), commonly referred to as regenerative braking. Regen slows the bike when you release the throttle while recovering a small amount of energy back into the battery.

Note: This feature is available on R1 and R1+ models equipped with the current TFT display.


What is Regenerative Braking?

Regenerative braking uses the electric motor to create braking force when the throttle is released.

Benefits include:

  • Reduced brake pad wear
  • Improved control on steep descents
  • Smoother corner entry
  • More controlled technical riding
  • Small amount of energy returned to the battery

Regen Levels

The R1 and R1+ allow you to choose from five regen settings.

G0 0% (Off)

Recommended Settings

  • 0% – No regenerative braking.
  • 25% – Light engine braking with a natural coasting feel.
  • 50% – Balanced braking for everyday trail riding.
  • 75% – Strong braking for technical terrain and steeper descents.
  • 100% – Maximum regenerative braking for aggressive riding and steep hills.

How to Change the Regen Setting

Step 1

Turn the bike ON.

Step 2

Within the first 10 seconds after turning the key on:

Press and hold the UP and DOWN buttons simultaneously.

This will open the display settings menu.


Step 3

Scroll down to:

EABS Rating

Press the Mode/Enter button.


Step 4

Select your desired regen level:

  • G0
  • G1
  • G2
  • G3
  • G4

Press Enter to save your selection.


Step 5

Scroll back to:

Exit

Press Enter to leave the menu.


Step 6

Cycle through the information screens on the display.

A regen icon with the selected level (for example ) will appear, confirming the setting has been successfully applied.


How the Regen System Works

The Rerode system uses progressive regenerative braking.

This means:

  • The faster you're traveling, the stronger the regenerative braking becomes.
  • As the bike slows, the braking force is automatically reduced for a smoother, more natural riding experience.

This makes technical riding and downhill sections feel predictable while preventing abrupt braking at lower speeds.


Why Regen Doesn't Work Above 85% Battery

If your regen doesn't seem to be working after a full charge, this is completely normal.

The R1 and R1+ automatically disable regenerative braking when the battery is above approximately 85% state of charge.

This protects the battery from receiving excessive reverse charging current while it's nearly full.

A simple way to think about it:

You can't pour more water into a bucket that's already full.

Once the battery drops below approximately 85%, regenerative braking will automatically begin working again.

Verify the following:

  • Regen is enabled (G1–G4)
